ABK Biomedical has started building a GMP plant in Ashland, Missouri, at Cartwright Business Park. The site is for commercial-scale production of Eye90 microspheres, the company's imageable yttrium-90 radioembolization device for hypervascular tumors. Construction finishes in 2027 and commissioning follows in 2028.
ABK is based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, with a second office in Orange County, California. It named the University of Missouri Research Reactor as a partner on the project, alongside COR Development and Coil Construction. The company has not disclosed the capital cost or a headcount for the site.
Eye90 is still investigational, so ABK is committing to capacity well before it has a US authorization to sell into. That order of operations is normal for a Y90 device, where isotope supply and plant qualification take longer than a submission review, and siting next to a research reactor is the part that is hard to redo later.
