Forj Medical opens a Costa Rica plant with ISO Class 8 cleanrooms and 50 staff

Forj Medical opened a plant of just under 5,000 square meters in Costa Rica's Evolution Free Zone and announced it on September 24. The site runs ISO Class 8 cleanrooms with automated and manual assembly lines for finished devices and subassemblies.

Forj lists surgical navigation, electrophysiology, diabetes management, drug delivery and cardiovascular work as the target programs. More than 50 people work there now, with engineering, finance, manufacturing and logistics roles planned through 2027. The St. Paul company was formed in October 2025 by merging Intricon and Minnetronix. Costa Rica is its sixth plant, alongside sites in North America, Singapore and Indonesia.

Nearshore Class 8 capacity matters at the point where a contract manufacturer's queue, not the design, sets the launch date. Costa Rica also keeps the supplier inside a time zone where a quality engineer can get on a plane the same day a lot fails.
