Johnson & Johnson agreed on April 27, 2026 to acquire Atraverse Medical, a cardiac access company in Cardiff by the Sea, California. Terms were not disclosed. J&J expected to close in the second quarter.
Atraverse sells Hotwire, a radiofrequency guidewire that punctures the atrial septum and stays in place as the working wire, cutting out catheter exchanges. FDA cleared the guidewire under K240900 on May 1, 2024, the RF generator and footswitch under K252083 on August 12, 2025, and further guidewire versions under K252419 and K260292. By the time of the deal, nearly 100 electrophysiologists and interventional cardiologists had used it in roughly 3,000 left-heart access procedures, 29% of them without fluoroscopy.
The company raised $12.5 million in seed money in 2024 and $29.4 million in a 2025 Series A, then sold about two years after its first clearance. John Slump is CEO, Steven Mickelsen chief translational science officer and Eric Sauter chief operating officer.
Hotwire lands next to Abiomed and Shockwave inside a J&J cardiovascular unit whose sales rose 13% to $2.38 billion in the first quarter of 2026. Its direct competitor is Boston Scientific's ProTrack RF Anchor Wire.
