Johnson & Johnson plans to separate DePuy Synthes by mid-2027 and now calls a spin-off more likely than a sale. Earlier reports had put the company in talks with Apollo Global Management over the orthopedics unit.
MedTech sales came in at $8.64B for the third quarter, up 2.5 percent and below the $8.74B consensus. Orthopedics grew 3.4 percent to $2.34B. Surgery fell 1.0 percent to about $2.53B as international sales dropped 4.2 percent. Cardiovascular rose 4.1 percent to $2.31B, with Abiomed Impella down 1.5 percent and Shockwave international sales up 17.2 percent. The stock fell more than 5 percent on the day.
An independent DePuy Synthes becomes a buyer with its own balance sheet and its own appetite, which changes the exit math for ortho and spine companies now raising. J&J has set December 8 for an enterprise business review that includes a 2027 outlook for its Ottava surgical robot.
