Nami Surgical said on October 14 that it raised £3.4M, structured as an extension to its earlier round. The Scottish National Investment Bank led the extension with £2M. Existing backers Eos Advisory, Scottish Enterprise and the Investment Fund for Scotland, managed by Maven Capital Partners and delivered through the British Business Bank, joined without disclosing their shares.
The company, a 2021 University of Glasgow spinout founded by Nico Fenu and Rebecca Cleary, builds a miniaturized ultrasonic scalpel. A smaller transducer lets the instrument bend and rotate inside a robotic system while still cutting tissue and sealing vessels. Nami holds ISO 13485 and has no market clearance yet. The money pays for commercialization, R&D hiring and five jobs at its Hillington site in southwest Glasgow. An energy instrument sized for a wristed robotic arm is a component sale, and the list of buyers who need one is short.
