Olympus agreed on May 26, 2026 to acquire BioProtect, an Israeli company, for $270 million, with closing expected by the end of the second quarter of 2026.

BioProtect makes a biodegradable balloon spacer implanted between the prostate and surrounding tissue during radiation therapy for prostate cancer. It degrades on its own after treatment. The device was commercially introduced in 2023 and has been used in more than 11,000 procedures worldwide. BioProtect had about 130 employees and roughly $14.5 million in 2025 revenue.

Olympus said the deal helps it grow in therapeutic areas adjacent to endoscopy, including gastrointestinal and urological care, and that its global distribution and provider relationships would widen patient access. The multiple, close to 19 times trailing revenue, says what a strategic will pay for a single-product company with real procedure volume in a category it wants to enter.
