Redefine Surgery closed a $10M pre-seed on September 24, backed predominantly by surgeon investors. The round was oversubscribed and no institutional lead was named.
Three co-founders started the company in 2023: Peter Verrillo as CEO, Ignacio Tzoumas as COO and Stephen Potter as CTO. Its Vision System runs computer-vision navigation with no fiducials or arrays, registering in seconds at roughly 1 mm and 1 degree. Nothing is cleared. The company states the platform is under development and not commercially available.
A day earlier Redefine named Catalyst OrthoScience its founding partner for shoulder replacement. Catalyst was founded in Naples, Florida in 2014 by orthopedic surgeon Steven Goldberg and sells shoulder arthroplasty systems. The two say they are going after up to four times the procedure efficiency at a tenth of the technology cost, with more than 25 surgeon advisors attached. Raising from the surgeons who will use the system buys adoption signal that a generalist seed round does not.
