SedMed raised $4M on October 2 in a round led by 108 BioCapital. The company sells a sit-to-stand toilet lift that attaches to most standard toilets and needs no electricity, batteries or bathroom remodeling.

More than 40 hospital systems use the device, along with homes and senior living operators. CEO Jeremy Bronen said the money goes to commercial expansion, distribution and channel partnerships, the patent portfolio, and more hospital-based studies.

Bronen and Tim Krupski, both UConn mechanical engineering graduates, started SedMed in 2020 out of a senior design project. The product is purely mechanical, which keeps the regulatory and service burden small and makes the hospital studies the real selling work.
