Sofinnova Partners closed Sofinnova MD Start IV at 82 million euros, about $93 million, on September 29. The fund creates companies rather than investing in ones that already exist, and Sofinnova expects six to eight medtech ventures out of it over five years across Europe and the US.
The prior vehicle, MD Start III, closed at 63 million euros and seeded six companies that raised more than 140 million euros in follow-on rounds. Partners Anne Osdoit, Cecile Dupont and Mano Iyer run the strategy, with Gerard Hascoet and Josh Makower as venture partners.
