Daniel Hawkins is the new board chair at Solenic Medical. Hawkins founded Shockwave Medical and ran it as CEO from 2007 to 2017, after executive roles at Intuitive Surgical. J&J MedTech bought Shockwave for $13.1B in 2024.

Solenic, based in Dallas, treats periprosthetic joint infection with alternating magnetic fields. The system heats the outer surface of a metal implant enough to break up bacterial biofilm, which is meant to keep the implant in the patient. VIC Technology Venture Development formed the company in December 2019 around technology licensed from UT Southwestern.

FDA approved the company's IDE on June 23 for a trial of SOLA-2 in infected knee replacements, with enrollment expected to start in the second half of 2026. A chair with a $13B exit behind him is a financing signal as much as a governance one, and Solenic has a trial to fund.
