Emanate Biomedical said on September 17 that FDA cleared Perio PODS, patient-matched single-use dental trays preloaded with an engineered hydrogel. The indication is protection of injured periodontal tissue after planned non-surgical procedures, meaning scaling, root planing and periodontal maintenance. Patients wear the trays twice daily for 30 minutes, for up to 15 days after the visit.
The company put a 45-patient randomized controlled trial behind the submission, run at the ADA Forsyth Institute. Patients who used the trays showed greater reductions in pocket depth and in gingival inflammation markers than debridement alone. The results were selected for oral presentation at the 2026 IADR General Session.
Emanate was founded in 2019 by Peter Zegarelli, a dentist with more than 40 years in practice, and has raised $11 million from Pierpoint Capital. It runs research and manufacturing in Redwood City, California, and keeps its head office in New York City. A phased US launch is planned for 2027.
A randomized trial is more than this pathway asks for. Most dental wound dressings clear on bench testing and a predicate, so the Forsyth data is a commercial asset first and a regulatory one second.
