FIZE Medical announced the first close of a $20 million Series B on September 17, co-led by Asahi Kasei Medical and Rapha Capital Management. Asahi Kasei Medical is already the exclusive distributor for FIZE in Japan, and the two are extending that arrangement into Europe.

The company sells FIZE kUO, a digital urine output monitor aimed at fluid management in the ICU, where output is still often logged by hand every hour. The system holds CE mark and UKCA certification. FIZE splits its operations between Modiin, Israel and Jericho, New York.

Proceeds go to FIZE Optima, a platform in development that CEO Dror Zerem describes as moving beyond monitoring toward anticipating fluid-related risk. Commercial spend in existing markets takes the rest.

A strategic distributor co-leading a round buys channel and capital in one move. It also gives that strategic a seat at the table on any later sale, which is worth pricing into the term sheet rather than after it.
