GE HealthCare is in advanced talks to buy Sofie Biosciences for about $1 billion, the Financial Times reported on September 13. The report cites people familiar with the matter and says a deal could land as soon as this week. Neither company has commented.
Sofie makes PET radiopharmaceuticals and the imaging chemicals used to find cancer on scans. The Virginia company has been operating for roughly 20 years. GE HealthCare consolidated its imaging business units earlier this year.
Nothing here is signed. Treat the price as a reported figure until one of the two issues a release or makes a filing. The direction is the useful part for a startup. GE HealthCare is shopping for the chemistry that feeds the scanner rather than for another scanner.
