Mayo Clinic and Thermo Fisher Scientific announced Precure, LLC on September 15. Mayo is the majority owner and Thermo Fisher the minority owner. The company's stated job is to generate molecular data from one million biospecimens and tie it to clinical records collected over several years.

The work runs on Thermo Fisher's Olink Explore HT proteomics platform and Orbitrap mass spectrometry, with Mayo contributing specimens, clinical data and analytics. Mayo says returns flow back into its nonprofit mission. Precure is based across Rochester, Minnesota and Waltham, Massachusetts.

Precure has not named a test or a device of its own. It is building the dataset that someone else's early-detection assay would be trained and validated against, which puts it upstream of every diagnostics startup chasing presymptomatic signal, and makes access terms the thing worth watching.
