FDA cleared Medtronic's LigaSure RAS Maryland instrument for use with the Hugo robotic-assisted surgery system. It is the first LigaSure Maryland jaw built for a robot. The instrument seals and cuts vessels, thick tissue and lymphatics up to 7 mm in diameter, taking about two seconds per seal.

The same instrument carried a CE mark in Europe in 2025. Hugo cleared in the US in December 2025 for urologic surgery, and Medtronic ran its first US commercial cases at Cleveland Clinic in February 2026. Matthew Kroh, chief medical officer of the surgical business, framed vessel sealing as the center of the hardest moments in a procedure.
